The Orthodox Church was founded in Jerusalem in 33 AD, fifty days after the resurrection of christ. (it is now called Eastern Orthodox) The Roman Catholic church was part of the EOC, until 1054, when they broke off from the EOC because the pope made claims of too much authority over the church.
